Jarred Privacy Policy
In short: Jarred records a browser tab only when you press Start capture, keeps the result on your device, and sends nothing to us or anyone else. There is no server, no account and no analytics.
What Jarred handles
While you run a capture, Jarred records:
- Video of the tab you chose, with its sound if the tab plays audio.
- Screenshots you take during the capture.
- Clicks and page navigation: the type of element clicked and the visible text of buttons and links (never the contents of form fields), and the page address with its query string and fragment removed.
- Console messages: only the level (for example “error”) and the number of arguments, never the message text.
- Network requests: method, status, timing and a shortened address. Not request or response bodies, headers or cookies.
- Environment details saved with the report: browser name and version, operating system, viewport size and time zone.
- Report text you write: title, steps, expected and actual result, severity and priority.
Jarred does not capture passwords, form values, keystrokes, cookies, authorization headers or access tokens by default. Video and screenshots show whatever is on the page, so they can include personal or confidential information that the page displays. Jarred cannot remove it automatically. Review each capture before you share it.
Where the data is stored
Everything is kept in your browser’s local storage for this extension (IndexedDB), on your device. It is not uploaded, synced to a server or shared with us.
Sharing
Jarred never shares your data. If you export a report (JSON, Markdown, HTML or ZIP), the file is saved where your browser downloads files, and what you do with it is up to you. The export preview shows what a file will contain before you download it.
Retention and deletion
Captures stay until you delete them. You can delete a capture from the popup, remove individual events, screenshots or video from a report, and remove the extension, which makes Chrome delete its stored data.
Third parties and analytics
None. Jarred loads no remote code, fonts or scripts and includes no analytics, advertising or tracking.
Limited use
We use the data described above only to provide the single purpose of this extension: recording, reviewing and exporting a bug report on your device. We do not sell it, transfer it to third parties, use it for advertising, or use it to judge creditworthiness.
Permissions
The extension asks for access to all websites so it can record whichever site you choose. It only runs on the tab you start recording and only while a capture is running. Each permission is explained on the extension’s first-run page.
Children
Jarred is a developer tool and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above. If a future version adds a feature that sends data off your device, such as cloud upload, that feature will be opt-in and this policy will be updated before that version is released.
